Bishop Banda leads Northmead as Overseer and Senior Pastor. In 2020 he was elected Presiding Bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God Zambia, which covers more than eighteen hundred congregations across the country.
He also serves as President of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Africa, Southern Africa Region — a role overseeing some four thousand congregations across ten countries — and as President of the Africa Christian Transformation Forum.
His doctoral research at Middlesex University, carried out through the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies, examined the impact of congregation-based HIV/AIDS programmes in Lusaka — academic work grounded in what this church was already doing on Paseli Road.
He is Chancellor of the City University of Science and Technology at Trans-Africa Christian University, a Senator at Lusaka Apex Medical University, and an adjunct lecturer at the Oxford Centre for Religion and Public Life. He is a published author.

Through the Expanded Church Response task force, which he chaired, more than sixteen thousand churches were mobilised to provide health care to tens of thousands of people living with HIV.
The Lazarus Project began with the women of this church.
Pastor Gladys Banda serves on the pastoral team and preaches regularly. In 1999 she led the women of Northmead in founding the Lazarus Project, a farm caring for and educating children orphaned by AIDS.
Together the Bandas have founded humanitarian work that has rescued hundreds of boys from the streets and rehabilitated thousands of orphaned and vulnerable children. They have been married for close to four decades and have four children and two granddaughters.
